The Vixen VC200L Cassegrain is a very versitile telescope and an ideal instrument for both planetary and deep sky astrophotography.
Its impressive 1800mm focal length will reveal some exceptionally sharp details on the moon and planets, especially under favorable sky conditions when coupled with an additional barlow or extender.
However where the VC200L really excels is in the field of deepsky astrophotography, especially smaller or more distant galaxies and nebula. At a native f/9, and at 1800mm focal length, the additional details which can be seen on a wide range of deep space targets can be truly breath-taking, but just take note, a sturdy mount is essential to allow for the longer exposures needed at f/9 and at this long focal length.
The VISAC spherical primary mirror (Vixen Sixth-Order Aspheric Cassegrain) has been specially designed by Vixen for astrophotography and also provides a fully-flat and true-colour image over the entire image frame. Thanks to the three-element field corrector in front of the convex secondary mirror, there is no spherical aberration, coma or field curvature whatsoever. There is also an 0.71 optical reducer (sold separately here) which will drop the f-ratio to a very impressive f/6.4 while still maintaining a focal length of 1278mm - making this a truly incredible deepsky astrophotography telescope.
