Main features at a glance:
- USB 3.0 for a quick download - can also be operated with USB 2.0 - DDR3 memory buffer for stable data transfer with USB2.0 - this minimizes amplifier glow.
- Powerful Peltier cooling up to -35 °C below ambient.
- One of Sony's most light-sensitive CMOS sensors
- High resolution through 3.76 μm pixels - ideal for fast and sharp telescopes, such as APO's, Hyperstar, Celestron Faststar, fast Newtonian telescopes.
- Includes AR clear glass filter - full passage even in infrared. If the IR is to be blocked, an IR cut filter is required.
- Distance T2 connection thread (female thread) to the camera sensor: 17.5 mm
- Distance front surface to sensor (when using the male thread): only 6.5 mm.
- High sensitivity - QE over 80 % - ideal astronomy camera for faint objects
- 14-bit ADC - this allows you to achieve a depth similar to CCD cameras, but with much higher sensitivity
Deep sky images (nebulae and galaxies): Due to the high sensitivity, nebulae and galaxies are imaged after just a few seconds and the camera can be cooled down to -35 °C below ambient conditions which further reduces the already low noise level. By up-regulating the GAIN (comparable to the ISO setting for digital DSLR cameras), you can reduce the exposure times to less than 30 seconds - This helps to reduce the problems associated with seeing conditions and tracking errors.
For the Moon and Planetary images, extremely short exposure times are also possible due to camera's high sensitivity. Due to the high resolution of the sensor, many details can be imaged a shorter focal length - Video capture is also possible.
Important: external power supply required:
This camera requires 1 amp minimum (even during uncooled operation), which is a problem for USB sockets on computers, because they are only designed for 900 mA, i.e. 0.9 Amps, therefore a 12V power supply is required to use this camera (sold separately).
