This universal 50mm Guide Scope & Finder Scope has a focal length of 220mm and although initialy designed for the Explore Scientific range, its also suitable for use on a wide range of other telescopes.
This excellent 8x50 Finder Scope has a detachable eyepiece unit and crosshairs with adjustable red illumination for ease of use in the dark. The very precise helical focuser has many connection possibilities such as a 1.25" / 31.7mm plug-in connector, as well as the T2 camera connection thread (M42x0.75mm) to enable the autoguiding camera required for long exposure astrophotography. It can even be used as a small mini travel telescope.
The scope viewfinder also has a very large field of view (FOV) of 6.96 degrees, making it much easier to search for and target objects. The existing scale markers (division =1 degree) of the crosshairs are a good reference for estimating distances and the open center marking also facilitates the precise centering of objects. All the lens surfaces have a multi-coating and guarantee a bright viewfinder image due to the high light transmission values. The adjustable red LED lighting is powered by two LR41 button cells. The main lens and crosshairs can be focused independently, giving you perfect focus for your eyes.
Compact tracking unit for Auto-guiding:
One of the main applications for this telescope is auto-guiding. For this purpose, the Guide Scope is inserted into the existing scope shoe of the primary optics and aligned in parallel. If the existing scope shoe is not compatible, a second shoe is also included. A tracking camera can be mounted with the 1.25 inch/31.7mm plug-in connector at the rear of the scope or via T2 threaded connection (M42x0.75mm) - Please note the required back focus for your tracking camera. The focus plane (or back focus) is about 22mm behind the T2 thread. The precision focuser allows you to focus sharply onto the guide star and for easy repetition of the focus point, the focus tube has a white millimeter scale of 0 to 28mm laserd on top.
Use as a mini travel telescope:
This Finder / Guide Scope can also be easily used as a mini travel telescope. A magnification of x 8 to x 40 can be achieved with optionally available eyepieces. Almost all eyepieces with an eyepiece focal length of 5 to 26mm and 1.25 inch/31.7mm plug-in connection type are suitable.
Metal viewfinder holder and viewfinder shoe:
The base holder of the viewfinder and guide telescope is made entirely of aluminum and forms a stable base. If the existing viewfinder shoe is not compatible, a suitable viewfinder shoe which is included can be attached to the OTA using 4 x M5 screws. The bore distances of the viewfinder shoe on the longitudinal and transverse axis are 31.7mm. All the adjustment and clamping screws have plastic tips that effectively prevent scratching of the viewfinder housing and the viewfinder holder.
