TS-Optics 8" f/12 Hyperbolic Cassegrain telescopes are excellent high contrast and optically sharp instruments, particularly well suited for lunar and planetary viewing and imaging.
In terms of optical quality, Cassegrain telescopes are traditionally more advantageous than other similar designs such as SCT's which generally contain more basic spherical mirrors and a larger central obstruction. Being an open ended system, similar to Newtonian designs, these cassegrains are also less susceptible to dew formation and also adapt to temperature changes much more quickly.
Advantages of the TS-Optics Cassegrain design:
- Well corrected field due to parabolic primary and hyperbolic secondary mirror with less field curvature compared with other cassegrain designs.
- These are a pure reflection system without a Schmidt plate, resulting in better sharpness as well as the possibility for IR Photography
- Significantly quicker temperature adaption thanks to Newtonian style open ended design.
- Brighter image due to 96% dielectric coating on primary and secondary mirror.
- No mirror shifting while focusing, because the primary mirror is fixed.
- Includes a high-quality 2" Crayford focuser with micro-gear reduction and compression rings for 2" and 1.25" accessories
- Only 33% obstruction caused by secondary mirror.
- Better sharpness on the optical axis due to precise mirror surfaces and the lack of a front plate
- Several interior baffles for even higher image contrast
- Generous backfocus allowing the use of 2" accessories.
- Compact tube with only 580mm length - so can be operated with smaller mounts
- Primary and secondary mirrors are adjustable
