This Super ED (SD) Apochromatic Refractor is made using FPL53 glass which produces an extremely clear and sharp image which is extremely well color corrected. Its large 115mm aperture and 890mm focal length make it an extremely capable optical system for lunar and planetary viewing.
With its respectable f/7.7 its also an excellent choice for astrophotography, especially some of the smaller deep space targets. The SD series has also been optimized for the use of full-frame cameras by replacing new inner panels and the large focuser allows the attachment of heavy cameras without tilting.
The advantage of these SD refractors lies in their short overall length and low weight. The SD glass is designed to bring together all the rays of violet, red, blue, yellow and green very precisely to the same point, offering an almost perfect colour corrected image. In combination with the new optional SD Reducer or SD Flattener, these Refractors enable illumination with a 44mm image circle for full-frame SLR cameras.
The included diagonal mirror also allows for more comfortable observation of objects near the zenith. I also has a T2 thread for connecting a DSLR camera.
